The Embroidery Artist
Ádám is the designer behind the performance costumes of the band Besh o droM. His growing collection includes vibrant pants made from recycled materials. The colourful patterns, a blend of machine and hand embroidery, and the experimental use of materials come together to create a cheerful, dynamic, and energetic collection that harmoniously reflects and complements the music and spirit of Besh o droM.
"I have always dreamed of turning my old, worn-out jeans in different colours into new, vibrant trousers. For a long time, I never thought I would be the one to make them. My wife is much better at this—she studied textile design at the University of Applied Arts. Looking back, I am grateful she didn’t make them for me, though she is always happy to help when I get stuck.
The embroidery features the names and faces of people who are important to me, like Kropotkin, Dr. Máriás, Béla Pintér, and Sickratman. Phrases that I find significant also get stitched onto the pants. The designs are just as much about the visual elements—shapes, colours, and especially the multicoloured threads—as they are about the messages.
In the band, we all come from different places and bring a wide variety of influences. This diversity makes our music fresh and recognizable. In line with this, everyone on stage brings their own personality, style, and authenticity. Not every organiser had appreciated this, and sometimes we faced criticism, but we didn’t care much. Then, after I made my first pair of trousers and wore them to a concert, I noticed the band liked them—though I also sensed a bit of envy—even before I got an open round of applause from the audience at Ördögkatlan for mines. That was the moment I decided every band member would get a pair.
I could see how genuinely happy everyone was when their trousers were finished, especially after reading the personalised embroidered messages. They were thrilled, but they didn’t have much choice—they could see how much work went into them. They appreciated the gesture. I think they could tell how much it meant to me. But I would say they truly like them too."
